In order to get the new AJAX controls loaded into your toolbar in Visual Studio 2008 you have to start visual studio in safe mode. You do this by running this command: "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\Common7\IDE\devenv.exe" /safemode
After starting visual studio in safe mode right click on the toolbar and click "Choose Items". Wait a few seconds and an error message will popup. Just click ok and continue adding your controls by browsing to the dll.
